Seattle Storm Spotlight

MISSION:

Through the fostering of relationships, engagement, and platforms focused on positive impact, StormCares is the heart of the Storm purpose. On and off the basketball court, StormCares strives to develop life-long healthy habits through empowerment, inclusion and education for those they reach.

PROGRAMS:

Celebrates the power in girls and women in Puget Sound region through dynamic leadership programs that inspire, speaking engagements that motivate, and academic platforms that educate.

Storm into College

Middle and high school students are given the opportunity to learn more about their options for higher education while attending a Storm game. There is a College Fair where the students can meet with local university admission representatives and a panel of Storm Front Office employees and basketball staff.


Storm Math Hoops Live Event

30 participants from Rotary, Rainier Vista, and Southwest Boys and Girls Clubs are welcomed to the Storm practice court. After playing the NBA Math Hoops board game that allows students to learn fundamental math skills, the kids are invited to a Q&A session.

The StormAssist program allows the Storm to make the extra pass and support programs in need through auction donations, Storm tickets, and volunteer opportunities. This platform provides unique experiences and memorable moments for all it serves.

3’s for Trees

For the past 11 years, the Seattle Storm and Carter Subaru have partnered to reduce our carbon footprint through 3’s for Trees program. For every three-pointer the Storm makes each season, Carter Subaru commits to plant one tree in the mountains to Sound Greenway

 

Free Throws for the Future

For each free throw made by a Storm player both at home and away, Alaska Airlines will donate 2,000 airline miles to a named beneficiary for up to 1,000,000 total miles.

In order to help everyone reach their goals and be their healthiest, the Storm developed StormFit. This fitness program for kids and teens develops lifelong fans of the game of basketball – and good health – through on-court camps, clinics, and open community practices.

Basketball Clinics

Each season the Storm offer FREE clinics where players join participants in on-court drills and competitions. Participants receive a free t-shirt, basketball and tickets to an upcoming Storm game.

StormFit Night

For the past five years, the Storm has presented an evening promoting youth health and wellness. Kids have the opportunity to take photos in a concourse photo booth, participate in a fitness-inspired contest during halftime, and receive cool giveaways.

StormUnity represents the intersection of civic responsibility, social justice and the powerful platform of professional sports. The Seattle Storm is committed to action around the promotion of equity, inclusion, and diversity.

Believe in Women

Presented by Symetra, this is an annual opportunity for Storm players and fans to thank those who have had an important influence in making the community strong. It’s also a chance to shine the limelight on some who are rarely noticed for their work but have a profound positive impact on those they have touched.

Special Olympics Night

Partnered with Bank of America, this event encourages inclusion and equality for all through the game of basketball. The night is dedicated to recognizing the accomplishments of Special Olympics Washington athletes.

As part of the WNBA, the world’s longest-running women’s professional sports league, the Seattle Storm proactively promotes the health and well-being of women and children. The StormWellness platform highlights resources around awareness, prevention, and early detection of medical issues

Austen Everett Foundation Honorary Captains

For the sixth year, the Storm partnered with the Austen Everett Foundation to provide Honorary Captain experiences for children battling cancer.

 

Breast Health Awareness Night

Partnered with the Swedish Cancer Institute to provide education and awareness to fans on social media with important health and screening tips. Over three years the Storm have raised and donated $65,743 to the Swedish Cancer Institute Patient Assistance Fund.
