San Francisco 49ers Organizational Spotlight

Mission:

The 49ers Foundation harness football to educate and empower Bay Area youth through direct and beneficiary programs throughout Bay Area counties and beyond. From 49ers EDU’s award-winning STEAM education program and 49ers PREP’s nationally recognized youth football, health and wellness programs, the 49ers Foundation supports both initiatives in their dedication to inspire the confidence and collaboration youth need to tackle what is possible.

 

49ers Educate:

The 49ers EDU creates meaningful and relevant experiences through informal education by leveraging football as a platform to connect, engage, and inspire K-8 students and teachers in STEAM. The hope is to spark interest and light a fire in the next generation of STEAM professionals to help support the STEAM pipeline.

49ers Empower:

The 49ers PREP aims to educate and empower Bay Area youth. The program provides free non-contact activities for both boys and girls as well as additional programs surrounding youth football players, parents, and coaches with the aim of creating young, healthy leaders on and off the field. 49ers PREP’s principal objective is to teach more children teamwork, goal-setting, and how to live a healthy lifestyle in fun, safe, and educational environment.

Programs and Projects of 49ers EDU:

Extra Yard for Teachers: The mission of Extra Yard for Teachers project is to elevate the teaching profession by inspiring and empowering teachers. One of the the goals was to capture the adaptations of education system and resiliency of educators given the sudden shift to distance learning.

Professional Development Platform: In support of educators, 49ers Foundation developed a free Professional developmental Platform. 49ers. Professional Development Platform offers three professional development sessions: Project Based Learning, STEM Integration, and The Engineering & Design Process.

 

Follow Your Bliss Award: The San Francisco 49ers Foundation created the Dr. Harry Edwards “Follow Your Bliss” Award for full time educators across the San Francisco Bay Area who lead the future generation with purpose, passion, dedication and love.

2020 recipients: Ashanti Branch, Founder of The Ever Forward Club; Megan Keefer, principal of California High School; Tiffany Ho, 5th grade teacher; Zeke Aguirre, special education teacher; Zubida Bakheit, 6th math and science teacher

Steam Champions Program: The 49ers STEAM Champions Program recognizes charitable partners committed to inspiring students and teachers, and building the next generation of STEAM professionals and leaders in our community.

Programs and Projects of 49ers PREP:  

Virtual Fitness Program: The virtual Fitness program aims to enhance participants in the areas of abdominal strength and endurance, aerobic capacity, body composition, flexibility, upper body strength, and trunk extensor strength and flexibility.

Flag Football Program: The youth flag football program provides a safe, fun introduction to football for kids ages 7-14 across the region. PREP Flag Football runs by community-based organizations and offers a harnessing football education for Bay Area youth.

Football Camp for The Stars: 49ers players, coaches, and staff ran a 2-day clinic to teach football fundamentals and to make the game fun and accessible for all.

Fresh Lifelines for Youth: Members of the 49ers visited a Juvenile Hall facility to help kids learn how to deal with negative emotions.

T.H.I.N.K Gold Conference: Over 65 high school female student athletes attended to the 11th Annual T.H.I.N.K Conference focusing on supporting young women in their athletic endeavors and giving them an inside look at careers in professional sports.
