Green Bay Packers Organizational Spotlight

MISSION

The Foundation, an entity independent of the Green Bay Packers, Inc., supports charities possessing one or more of the following goals: perpetuates a community environment that promotes families and the competitive value of athletics; contributes to player and fan welfare; ensures the safety and education of children; and/or prevents cruelty to animals.

GRANT PROGRAM

The Green Bay Packers Foundation offers grant opportunities to Wisconsin-based charitable organizations to fund projects that further its mission. The grant opportunities are open to eligible organizations that apply during three-year cycles. Grant applications are accepted online May 1 to July 1 each year and must be submitted with a project/program that addresses one of that year’s specific focus areas.

Focus areas by year for the 2020 – 2022 three-year cycle:

2020 – Elderly, Homelessness, Human services, Hunger (View more information about the recipient organizations and their programs here)

2021 – Arts and Culture, Athletics, Education

2022 – Animal Welfare, Civic and Community, Environmental, Health and Wellness (including Drug/Alcohol and Domestic Violence)

SOCIAL JUSTICE

The Green Bay Packers organization makes a donation annually to five social justice grants of $50,000 each to nonprofit organizations in Kenosha, Madison and Milwaukee, as part of the team’s ongoing pledge to support social justice and racial equality in Wisconsin communities.

Packers & Pals Movie Night- Relationships between kids in the Brown County PALS program and Green Bay Police were built during the inaugural Police, Packers and PALS Movie Night. Youth under the age of 12 observed K-9 demonstrations and participated in character presentations prior to enjoying dinner and a movie.

FOOTBALL OUTREACH

Packers Football Outreach Camp- The Green Bay Packers Football Outreach Camp is a grassroots program, which features educational benefits as well as recreational opportunities for kids in a safe and fun environment. The camp is designed for 2nd through 5th graders only. Football Outreach Camps are coordinated in conjunction with the NFL Play 60 Program.

Green Bay Packers Coaching School- The Packers hosted their annual Green Bay Packers Coaching School at Lambeau Field and the Don Hutson Center. The complimentary event offered youth football coaches innovative classroom and on-the-field football instruction from top Wisconsin football coaches. Beyond the X’s and O’s, attendees were taught techniques to ensure participants have fun playing the game they love while developing their character through football’s intrinsic values of teamwork, responsibility and discipline.

COMMUNITY BLOOD DRIVES

The Green Bay Packers organization holds a blood drive three times per year. In August of 2016, the Packers and the American Red Cross reached a milestone of 5,000 pints donated in the community blood drives at Lambeau Field since 2009.

Green Bay Packers EMPOWER

The Green Bay Packers hold an annual leadership event at Lambeau Field for 280 Brown County middle school students and 280 students in the Milwaukee Public School District. The all-day event features speakers geared at encouraging the students to use their influence to create positive change in their communities. 

Huddle For Heroes

More than 40 military veterans were treated to an inaugural event with current and former Packers players. Activities included a player Q&A, writing letters that were forwarded to active duty service members, interactive sports games and tours of Lambeau Field.

Roy Kessel

Roy Kessel is the Founder of the Sports Philanthropy Network. Roy has worked in the sports business world for over 20 years including serving as an instructor in Northwestern University's graduate Sports Management Program. Having served as a sports lawyer representing athletes, entrepreneurs and start-up businesses, Roy has extensive experience helping organizations improve their strategy, marketing, communications and leadership development.
