Vancouver Whitecaps FC Spotlight

ABOUT THE TEAM:

The Vancouver Whitecaps FC is a professional soccer team based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The team competes in the MLS Western Conference and hosts games at the BC Place Stadium. Vancouver Whitecaps FC made a commitment to direct change within their community through a variety of programs and initiatives.

‘CAPS IN THE COMMUNITY

The organization aspires to positively impact the lives of children and youth within the community. By partnering with various programs in Vancouver, they spare no effort in promoting mental and physical health, assisting underprivileged individuals, and encouraging fit and healthy lifestyles through soccer.

In 2020, the Vancouver Whitecaps FC partnered with Covenant House Vancouver for the organization’s 50/50 program. The Covenant House works to improve the lives of the homeless and on behalf of at-risk youth. The organization makes every effort to reunite young people with their families, collaborate with community agencies and associations and actively participate in community efforts to improve the condition of families and children. All proceeds from the 50/50 program at the Whitecaps home games went towards this organization in the 2020 season.

KID CAPTAIN PROGRAM

The Vancouver Whitecaps FC partnered with BC Children’s Hospital Foundation (BCCHF), Canada SCORES, and Hope and Health in order to create a new tradition at the Whitecaps home field. The Kid Captain program provides participants with the opportunity to be recognized and celebrated by the team and its supporters during home match days. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization has shifted to featuring Kid Captain participants virtually but looks forward to inviting future participants as fan attendance restrictions at BC Place are predicted to decline.

KIDS UP FRONT

Kids Up Front is a program designed to provide underprivileged kids with opportunities to attend quality events, ranging from sporting events, concerts, live theatre, theme parks, to movies. The organization targets children and youth who have been adversely affected by poverty, abuse, illness and disability. Kids Up Front strives to ease stresses and challenges the children have faced, and ultimately better the welfare of both children and families within the community.
