Sudden cardiac arrest is one of the most serious issues that occur during a sporting event. What steps can we take to prevent them? How can we provide a safe environment and the proper equipment?

CONCUSSIONS

As they lept to the forefront over the last decade, concussions became the focus of many sports organizations. Are we still taking them seriously enough? What steps can organizations take to reduce concussions, provide proper education and conduct baseline testing? What are the long term risks that are relevant for athletes and sports organizations?

ATHLETE ABUSE

The rise of awareness of the many forms of athlete abuse has increased the focus on how we can properly protect young athletes. What are the best steps to take? What procedures can be put into place? How can parents and coaches be educated to reduce these risks?

MENTAL HEALTH

A hot topic, mental health has many aspects that are rarely explored. As athletes transition from their youth to college and professional sports, the pressures ramp up. How do we help young athletes develop the skills and the framework to successfully navigate the increasing pressure? How do we support the retired athletes as they navigate their new role in the world of sports?

GOVERNING AND MANAGING COMMUNICATION WITH YOUTH

We know that athletes should not be left alone in dangerous postions, but in today's world of technology, some of the easiest ways to isolate and prey on young athletes is through electronic communication. How do we prevent this type of abuse? What steps can an organization take to implement controls on their staff?

How do we address the disparate access to health care? How does that access impact sports access and sports performance when disadvantaged athletes cannot receive the proper training and support? What are the best long-term strategies for narrowing this gap?

Young athletes are susceptible to the influences of drugs. How do we work with athletes, coaches and professional advisors to give athletes (of all levels), the support that they need to understand the challenges and make informed decisions?

A body cannot perform at peak level if it is not healthy and fit. How do we balance the needs for training and conditioning with living a healthy lifestyle? What is the best way to help support athletes as they go through these challenges? How do we instill healthy life-long habits?
