While working at Foot Locker during the 1980s sneaker boom, Rob impresses a visiting Reebok tech rep, leading to a recommendation and a life-changing call from Jim Van Dine offering him a position as a Reebok technical representative.

As a Reebok tech rep, Rob covers Philadelphia, Penn State, New Jersey, and Delaware, occasionally assisting with events in New York. When offered the chance to work overseas, he’s the only one to volunteer—setting the stage for his global career.

Relocating to Busan, South Korea, and later Bangkok, Thailand, Rob gains firsthand experience in global footwear manufacturing, traveling throughout Indonesia, Vietnam, and other Asian countries to oversee production.
8:36 – 10:38 | Back to U.S. – “Product Dev & Superstar Collabs”
After five years abroad, Rob returns to the U.S. to co-lead product development for Reebok across 50 Pacific Rim factories. He collaborates with stars such as Shaquille O’Neal and Allen Iverson, and later joins adidas in Portland under mentor Joe “Jellybean” Bryant, helping create Kobe Bryant’s first signature shoe.

Rob co-founds Dunk.net, a brand built with Shaquille O’Neal after his Reebok years. Shaq wins three consecutive NBA championships while representing the brand, but the early 2000s dot-com crash causes Dunk.net to close after several years.
11:40 – 14:31 | Next Roles – “Skechers, Vans, AND1, HOKA”
Rob briefly works at Skechers before moving to Vans, where he thrives for several years. He later joins AND1, spending seven years there through four ownership changes. Eventually, his mentor Jim Van Dine recruits him to HOKA, expanding Rob’s expertise into performance footwear.
14:47 – 21:04 | New Build – “TCG & Birth of ThoroMan”
Rob and Kyle Cox create TCG (Thoroughly Crafted Goods) two years before COVID-19. Despite pandemic setbacks, the brand survives. From this foundation, they launch ThoroMan, a youth program for high school students (grades 9–12) focusing on financial literacy, career mentorship, and professional development—teaching teens how to use tools like LinkedIn and connect with industry experts.

Rob envisions ThoroMan expanding globally, with each generation of students mentoring the next. He hopes to reach more schools beyond California. When asked what sport he’d lead as commissioner, he chooses basketball, predicting its continued global growth and integration—reflecting his own international experience in sports and culture.
