Portland Trail Blazers Spotlight

MISSION The Trail Blazers are dedicated to positively impacting the lives of children and families who have been historically underserved, where they live, learn, and play. The Trail Blazers Foundation gives grants to nonprofits, schools and youth and is funded through meaningful corporate partnerships with Nike, Moda Health, and Avangrid Foundation, revenue from Trail Blazers license plate sales and the 5050 raffle, in-game and online auctions, as well as other fundraising efforts.

PROGRAMS:

Read Big– The Trail Blazers and KinderCare Education are committed to encouraging and celebrating reading so that all children reach important literacy benchmarks. This is why they have partnered together for the Read Big Program, which incentivizes children to spend more time reading, both in school and at home. Their goal is to inspire children to read more, to become better readers, and to develop a lifelong love of reading!

Moda Assist– The most important assist the Trail Blazers make during the season is for kids in Oregon communities. They teamed up with Moda to create the Moda Assist Program supporting healthy, active living for kids. For every assist made on the court during the regular season, the Trail Blazers and Moda donate $20 to support building an all abilities playground in the greater Oregon community. The Trail Blazers have currently raised $13,240 less than halfway through the season.

Portland Trailblazers 50/50 Raffle Fans may purchase raffle tickets at Trail Blazers home games for a chance to win 50% of the jackpot, with the other 50% going to benefit the Trail Blazers Foundation and other local nonprofits throughout Oregon and SW Washington!

Operation Full Plate– The Trail Blazers, Sysco Food Services of Portland, Levy, and Urban Gleaners are teaming up to recover extra unused food from the Moda Center to reduce food waste and alleviate hunger in the greater Portland area. To date, 48,325 pounds of reusable food has been recovered from Rose Quarter games and events, equaling 40,271 meals donated to children and families in need since 2014

3’s for Trees- We all know how green spaces can transform a community and that is why we are continuing to make a positive impact on our environment. That’s why the Trail Blazers have teamed up with Daimler Trucks North America and Friends of Trees to plant three trees for every three-point field goal made during the regular season.

Live Greener Grant The Trail Blazers Foundation’s Live Greener Grants presented by Avangrid Foundation fund nonprofit organizations connecting youth with the environment for education, preservation, and employment. This year $400,000 was given by the Trail Blazers Foundation to 48 different organizations across Oregon and SW Washington.
