NY/NJ Gotham FC Spotlight

Mission:

Gotham FC is committed to giving back to and strengthening our community beyond the pitch.

Programs:

Emergency Food Program: The team and staff participated in a food drive in Newark during Covid-19 to help distribute food to over 1,500 families and senior citizens. This was the first philanthropy organized by the Sky-Blue FC Player Community Outreach Committee, which features nine players on the team with goals of making an impact to their community. Every Thursday, fresh produce and other essential foods are packed by volunteers and delivered to the doorsteps of senior citizens and familie

Athlete Ally: In 2020, The players and staff teamed up with Athlete Ally organization to support their mission of ending homophobia and transphobia in sport and supporting LGBTQ equality. A Pride Pack that included a rainbow-colored skyline t-shirt and sticker was released in their clothing collection. The club donated a total of $1000 to Athlete Ally, with each Pride Pack purchase contributing a $10 donation to the organization.

Champion Women: Since 2018, The club has recognized the extraordinary work of women and their contributions to the local community by honoring a few nominees each year.

For Sky Blue FC’s 2020 Champion Women Day, the nominees were recognized on various digital platforms throughout our #StayHome Game-day on June 13.

Community Partners:

NEW JERSEY INSTITUTE FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE: NJISJ seeks to empower people of color in New Jersey with its cutting-edge racial and social advocacy. Sky Blue FC players selected the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice for the Verizon Community Shield partnership after working with the organization during the NWSL Challenge Cup.

GREATER NEWARK CONSERVANCY: 

The volunteer outing is the first effort organized by the newly formed Sky Blue FC Player Community Outreach Committee. The Committee features nine Sky Blue players focused on enacting change and giving back to the community.

ATHLETE ALLY: Athlete Ally believes that everyone should have equal access, opportunity, and experience in sports — regardless of your sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. The Sky Blue 2020 merchandise collection included a Pride Pack that came with a rainbow colored skyline t-shirt and sticker. For every Pride Pack purchase, the Club donated $10 to Athlete Ally, for a total of $1,000 in 2020.
