Minnesota Lynx Spotlight

The Minnesota Lynx have various community initiatives that focus on sport access, education, combating food insecurity, health and wellness, honoring the military, highlighting women in the community, and staff volunteerism. These initiatives embody the Fastbreak Foundation and the Pack Gives Back initiative’s values of education, inclusion, and wellness.

Programs:

Dream Team – The Minnesota Lynx and Slumberland Furniture partner to sign five local youth as honorary members on the Lynx roster. Youth are partnered with a mentor Lynx player for the season as members participate in practice, honored on court during the game, and volunteer in a community service event.

Lynx Fit Clinics – The Lynx Fit Clinic is presented by Chobani and brings 30 youth participants from Special Olympics Minnesota to learn basketball skills and drills led by the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx Basketball Academy.

Book Mobile – The Timberwolves and Lynx Book mobile is a mobile library that was created by the FastBreak Foundation to promote reading throughout the Minnesota community. As an incentive for students to read, it allows them to pick a book of their choice to keep. Students also get to meet Lynx mascot Prowl and receive fun prizes!

Inspiring Women Program – This program is presented by Rasmussen College, and celebrates women throughout Minnesota who inspire, motivate, and encourage others around them through personal and professional leadership. Five women are honored each season who embody these qualities.

Points for Pounds – This season, Land O’Lakes donated ten pounds of food to Second Harvest Heartland for every point scored during a home or away game. Danielle Robinson and Lynx staff packed meal kits to feed people in need, in addition to the 40,000 pounds of food donated for the Points for Pounds program

Read to Achieve – In celebration of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day, Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx Staff and Players held a PACK Day of Service and went out to local elementary schools to read books that focused on women’s history to students.

Tickets for Kids – On behalf of the Minnesota Lynx FastBreak Foundation, Fox Sports North and our players, their program distributes tickets to nearly 200 organizations throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and the Dakotas to provide youth the opportunity to experience an WNBA game.

Her Time To Play – This program is a national grassroots initiative created by the WNBA and NBA to inspire the next generation of girls to play basketball in a positive and healthy way. Through sports, girls learn important life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and self-confidence.
