Mission Statement
The Los Angeles Lakers Youth Foundation’s mission is to help underserved youth develop their potential by providing positive experiences and resources in education, health and wellness, and sports. The Foundation also awards grants to other charities that support youth through direct services and programs in these areas
Health & Wellness
Junior Lakers: The Lakers youth basketball team focused on developing fundamental skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and positive community involvement. With this community outreach the Lakers embody: hard work, health, teamwork, dedication, and integrity to help the youth of the Los Angeles area.
Lakers Field Day: Partnering with UCLA Health, the Lakers take 250 at-risk youth to participate in field games to promote the importance of staying active.
Game Growers: Nike’s Game Growers program finds ways to keep young women playing the sports they love.
Youth Clinics: Partnering with local organizations, the Lakers host a free basketball or fitness clinic for their neighborhood children.
Court Renovations: Each year the Lakers Youth Foundation provide new courts in the area to provide a safe place for youth to learn and play.
Citizenship
Season of Giving: The Lakers host multiple events around the holidays to bring joy and holiday cheer to local underserved communities. Even past Lakers join the events to show their love and support for the community.
Lakers Team Up: Every month the Lakers staff participate in volunteer events that show the core pillars of the Lakers Community Relations to give back to the community and promote others in the community to go out and volunteer.
Building Bridges with Basketball: Current and former Lakers connect with police officers, community leaders, and older at-risk youth to portray the unique role sports can play in teaching the values of diversity and inclusion while also promoting conflict resolution.
Hoops for Troops: Partnering with Pechanga Resort Casino, this program honors those that served and sacrificed for our country by giving them the opportunity to play at the STAPLES Center with current and former Lakers.
Salute to our Troops: The Los Angeles Lakers along with Delta Airlines honor U.S. military living and stationed in Southern California. This event highlights these brave men and women’s career paths, unique journeys, and commitment to serve our country.
Education
Lakers Literacy League: This program is designed for teachers who are committed to improving literacy awareness and proficiency.
Student and Educator of the Month: The Los Angeles Lakers honor six local students and educators for their achievements in academics, athletics, and the local communities.
Power Points: Whenever the Lakers score 53 points or more in the first half of home games, Fifth Third Bank will donate technology products and computer software to three of the local Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro LA.
Math Hoops: This web-based game allows students to practice fundamental math skills by using their favorite NBA players.
Chick Hearn Scholarship: Honoring Hall of Fame Broadcaster Chick Hearn, the Lakers take the recipients of the Chick Hearn Memorial Scholarship and recognize the students and their families at the closest home game to Chick’s birthday.
