Houston Rockets Organizational Spotlight

Mission:

The Houston Rockets established the Clutch City Foundation in 1995, which is the overarching organization for the Rocket’s initiates throughout the Houston community. The overall mission is to change the lives of those who are less fortunate with an emphasis on the well-being of children. Their efforts focus on Education, Grassroots Basketball, and Grassroots Outreach.

Programs:

Jr. Rockets Program: The Jr. Rockets Program puts the Houston Rockets in the life of local youth through their respective basketball leagues. The program is intended to help create a life-long relationship with the
game and give support to these leagues. All leagues that participate will include a Rockets ticket within the registration.

Read Nation:
The Rockets have fostered a love for reading in the Houston youth. The events held for Read Nation are meant to be fun and interactive as the boys and girls in attendance read and participate in entertaining activities. Each child receives a book to keep to help continue that passion for reading.

Season of Giving: Around the holiday season, the Rocket players along with their families host events for those in the Houston community who are less fortunate. Hundreds of families get to participate in private
parties that entail gifts and visits from Rockets players.

Charity of the Month:
During the NBA season, the Rockets will outline a new community partner each month to help raise awareness for their initiatives and services. The Charity of the Month community partners are featured on the Rockets website (Rockers.com) and also at the Rockets Give Back setup at home games. These charities also receive donations from raffles.

Math Hoops: The Rockets “Math Hoops” is a board game aimed to impact students grades 4th through 8th. This game is based on basketball, featuring NBA/WNBA player stats. It incorporates learning math and social-emotional skills.

Be Fit: The Houston Rockets present the Be Fit Challenge, sponsored by Children’s Memorial Hermann. This challenge is incorporated throughout Houston schools and educates the youth about exercise and nutrition. These students participate in educational activities involving these concepts to try and win prizes.

Power of Preparation: The Houston Federal Credit Union and the Houston Rockets have combined their efforts to make sure students are more prepared for their futures and what they entail. The Power of Preparation program educates students on financial literacy and responsibility. It gives them the tools to understand a healthy financial outlook.
