February 2021 Newsletter

Today we honor National Girls and Women in Sports Day. All month long we will be recognizing and honoring Black History Month. With all of that activity, February is shaping up to be an exciting month. We are down in Tampa covering the Super Bowl this week (more details to follow on the blog, podcast and in March’s Newsletter) and hope that you will reach out to connect with us if you are in Tampa!

January got the year off to a flying start! We launched our Executive Director Mastermind which sold-out and was oversubscribed.  Keep an eye open for our Second Cohort launching in April. We are also planning to introduce a Development Director Mastermind since we know everyone needs to raise more money!

Our Sports Philanthropy World 2020 Conference had over 430 people people, representing 320+ organizations, 30 countries and 35 states as we held a virtual event for the first time.  We had incredible keynote presentations starting with the Opening Interview with Warrick Dunn and Darrin Gray. Richard Lapchick provided eye-opening and disturbing facts which are critical for everyone to understand. Leigh Steinberg closed out the first day with terrific insight into how he works with his athletes to impact their communities.  Day Two started with our POP Pitch competition where three organizations presented to a highly engaged panel of judges which provided them with great insight. Diahann Billings-Burford, CEO from RISE gave an impassioned keynote and treated us to an incredible interview with former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue.  David Meltzer closed out the keynotes with a passionate charge to make a difference in our world and to be a catalyst for change.

In between, we had incredible speakers on our Main Stage panels, a diverse array of panelists on the seven tracks of programming plus workshops.  In all, over 70 sessions were spread out over two days!

All of the videos have now been processed and uploaded onto both Pheedloop and YouTube. Participants can log in to Pheedloop at any time to check out sessions that they missed. The YouTube videos will be available on a rolling basis with different program tracks available each week. We hope you enjoy the many outstanding conversations which were held during SPW2020.

We are excited to announce that Sports Philanthropy World 2021 will be held on June 28-29, 2021. Once again, SPW will be virtual as we know travel may be difficult. We are forming committees to be part of the event so if you would like to be part of this worldwide conference, please let us know.

One other important element of this newsletter and all of our emails going forward is our new preference center. This will allow you to customize the types of communications you would like to receive from the Sports Philanthropy Network. Our goal is to ensure you get the details you want without bothering you with excess email. We hope you will take a moment to update your preferences to enhance your Sports Philanthropy Network experience.

Have a terrific month and we hope to see you in person soon!
