The mission of the Foundation is to enhance lives through the game of baseball, with a focus on youth, education and recreation. From ticket donations and field renovation projects, to youth baseball programs and college scholarships, the goal of the Foundation is to aid in the development and funding of innovative programs that reach Tigers fans with positive messages and promote the good citizenship embodied in the storied history of the Detroit Tigers.
Programs and Events
Keeping Kids in the Game
This Event was hosted by Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers. It is the signature fundraising event for the Detroit Tigers Foundation. During this event, guests had exclusive ballpark and field access which included tours of the home clubhouse. There was also live entertainment for the guests to enjoy.
As a result of this event, over $315,000 was raised to support children’s and youth baseball. In addition to this over 200 patients and family members from Children’s Hospital of Michigan and C.S Mott Children’s Hospital enjoyed a special night at Comerica Park that included meeting and greeting Tigers players.
Whiffle Ball After School
In partnership with Playworks Michigan, the Detroit Tigers Foundation launched an after-school intramural whiffle ball league in 2017. It is offered in 20 schools, serving approximately 200 elementary school students from low-to-mixed-income families. It is a five-week league which includes a whiffle ball Tournament and season-end Jamboree event.
Play Baseball Detroit
Launched in 2008, “Play Baseball Detroit” is a comprehensive urban youth baseball outreach program dedicated to expanding and strengthening youth baseball and softball programs in the greater Detroit community. The multi-faceted program includes equipment collections, school rallies, youth clinics, and a competitive tournament to encourage and develop the region’s young athletes into baseball stars of tomorrow.
