Cleveland Guardians Spotlight

MISSION

Cleveland Guardians Community Impact is dedicated to improving communities across Northeast Ohio by providing resources for social equity, education, and youth programming and select health and environmental initiatives. The Cleveland Guardians have a deep history of community involvement and philanthropic support. The Community Impact department is the organization’s vehicle to achieving its guiding commitment to positively impact the community. We utilize baseball to strengthen youth through service initiatives that focus on education, health and fitness. From player and front office engagement to community events and more, we are committed to making a difference in the lives of Clevelanders.

PROGRAMS

Cleveland Guardians Charities (CGC) – Cleveland Guardians Charities (CGC) is the private foundation of the Cleveland Guardians. CGC raises money though programs, events, and player contributions to support many CGC beneficiaries, including the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, the City of Cleveland Recreation Department youth baseball and softball programs, Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland and many other community organizations and nonprofits.

Field Renovation Programs –

Cleveland Guardians Charities provides up to 5 organizations annually with a $5,000 grant to improve the quality of a baseball field in Northeast Ohio.

PlayBall! CLE – PlayBall! CLE is an initiative of the Cleveland Guardians Foundation that provides financial support to underserved baseball and softball organizations throughout Greater Cleveland. As an organization, we understand how important a positive playing experience can be for youth development. Through this initiative, we will reward leagues and organizations that are providing access and opportunity for youth of all ages, backgrounds, and demographics. We also understand the value coaches and volunteers play in creating a positive youth baseball/softball experience. To this point, we will be rewarding leagues and organizations that put a strong effort into developing their coaches and volunteers each year and hold safety as a high priority. Leagues and organizations that are operating background checks for all their coaches and volunteers, applying pitch count guidelines, and providing other safety training (ex. concussion), will be supported accordingly.

Bob Feller Act of Valor Award – In a first-of-its-kind unison linking the United States Navy and the professional baseball world, the Bob Feller Act of Valor Award was created in 2013 to recognize individuals for possessing the values, integrity and dedication to serving our country that Bob Feller himself displayed. The award is presented annually to one professional baseball player, one Baseball Hall of Famer, and one US Navy Chief Petty Officer.
