Carolina Hurricanes Organizational Spotlight

Established in 1997, the Carolina Hurricanes Foundation has provided funding to children’s nonprofits with a health or education focus throughout North Carolina. The Foundation raises funds through annual special events, in-game auctions, mystery fundraisers, and generous direct donations. More than $15 million has been donated in cash grants and in-kind support to youth-serving organizations. Over 1,000 in-kind donations and tickets are given to local non-profits annually, and throughout the year, hundreds of items are collected for organizations through the charity drive program. Through its community outreach, the Hurricanes organization has supported and impacted children and families, military service members, public safety personnel and others all across North Carolina.

Mission

The Carolina Hurricanes Foundation strives to meet the health and educational needs of children, with a focus on underserved populations, and to strengthen youth hockey in our community.

Programs

Power Play Program: In partnership with three local public school systems, The Power Play Program educates middle school students on the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle. This program challenges students to exercise 60 minutes a day whether that be cardio, strength training, or free play. Once goals are met, students will receive complimentary tickets to a Hurricanes game.

READvolution: In an attempt to promote reading outside of classrooms, the Carolina Hurricanes challenged 150 elementary schools to read 2,020 books. Each student was challenged to perform at least 20 minutes of reading outside of the classroom. When the reading goal is reached, students are awarded free tickets to Hurricanes games along with school appearances from Stormy and the Pepsi Storm Squad.

The Hurricanes Heroes: Within this ticket program, Carolina Hurricanes Season Ticket holders are given the opportunity to donate any unused game tickets to various local non-profit organizations. Organizations who receive said tickets focus on the health, education or underserved population development of children and adults in the community.

Fundraisers

Canes 5k: Presented by UNC REX Healthcare and Raleigh Orthopedic, the Carolina Hurricanes have been hosting a 5k race around the PNC Arena for the past seven years. This event not only includes a 5k race but also 100 and 200-yard Caniac Kids Dashes, inflatables, and special appearances by Stormy and the Pepsi Storm Squad.

Golf Tournament: Presented by ThreeBridge Solutions, the annual Canes Golf Tournament benefits the Carolina Hurricanes Foundation. Foursomes are paired with Hurricanes players, coaches, broadcasters, or front office executives. Also included is a post-tournament dinner, where all proceeds go towards funding nonprofits that support children’s health and education in the local community.

Skate with the Canes: In it’s 22nd year, Skate with the Canes is presented by Advance Auto Parts at the PNC Arena. This event is an interactive experience which allows fans and players to engage with one another on the ice in addition to autographs and locker room photos.

Carolina Hurricanes Bash: The Canes Bash is a signature fundraiser for the Carolina Hurricanes Foundation. ACendees are invited to solve a mystery in addition to a variety of fun games, upscale food
stations, and both a salient and live auction.
