B1G Football Media Days 2024-Day 3

Oregon Coach Dan Lanning

Coach Dan Lanning of the Oregon Ducks is entering his first season as a Big Ten Conference member. He spoke about his family and his kids, and he mentioned that his kids are at youth camp. He also used words like fellowship, speaking humbly about the importance of “connection.”

Fellowship and connection are core values for Coach Lanning. He mentioned the horrific car accident this summer of Khyree and thanked the Heavy on Vikings team for their support of Khyree Jackson’s family.

He also talked about the community impact his team is working on in Oregon, working with charities and foundations that create hope and possibility through sports.

Overall, Coach Lanning said all the right things from the podium that make the team seem like the perfect fit for the B1G Conference!

Minnesota Coach P.J. Fleck

Minnesota Gophers P.J. Fleck talked about “cultural sustainability.” He spoke about the student-athlete experience and the program’s transformational nature in a transactional world, especially in the world of #NIL.

He spoke about the student-athlete experience and the program’s transformational nature.

He doesn’t believe in the transactional piece and wants to focus on a transformational life program. “Fit is important,” he says, but he wants to be in a program that focuses on mentoring, education, and transformation.

P.J. Fleck, in his unique style, acknowledges that his coaching philosophy may not be for everyone. However, he deeply appreciates his team’s love for football. Their off-season mantra was ‘competition’ 1. within oneself, 2. with each other, 3. and against the upcoming season’s opponents.

Maryland Coach Michael Locksley

University of Maryland Head Coach, Michael Locksley is “comfortable and confident”.

Let’s all embrace that, humbly.

Big changes, like those we see in politics and college athletics, are an opportunity to navigate a changing world. As you read this, just really think about it in the grand scheme of life. Here are Coach’s three B1G thoughts:

1. Operate out of an expanded room as a new way of thinking and doing things.

2. Let’s all make a commitment to give back to the community. His football players completed over 700 hours of service last season. This not only reflects their character but also fosters a sense of responsibility and unity within the team. Challenge the status quo. Dream big, and don’t be afraid to compete.

3. Be “player-led”. Let leadership lead from within.

Washington Coach Jedd Fisch

University of Washington #Huskies Head Coach Jedd Fisch is entering his first season as a Big Ten Conference member.

The philosophy is to “Be Pro”. This means more than just acting like a pro, it’s about training like a pro and aspiring to go pro. It’s a commitment to professionalism that inspires and motivates.

His values are “respect” and “accountability”.

This is the perfect time to rebrand and reboot. Think about this for your own personal life. Is it time to make a change? Is it time to reboot? Is it time to take it up a notch?

Think like a pro.
Act like a pro.
Go Pro!

Indiana Coach Curt Cignetti

Indiana University Athletics #Hoosiers Head Coach Curt Cignetti admitted that they were picked 17th out of an 18th-school league. Just three seasons ago, Indiana was just a touchdown away from winning the Big Ten Conference.

Do you ever feel irrelevant? Do you feel like the margin for error is slim? Can you imagine how this #Indiana team might be feeling right now?

I’ve always considered myself a scrapper. My whole life, I’ve been in the boxing ring with my gloves up, trying to fight my way out of a corner.

Life can be like that. I think that’s one of the things I love about sports. There’s always gonna be a winner and a loser, but there is nothing better than an upset.

Go upset the world!

Michigan Coach Sherrone Moore

University of Michigan Athletics Head Coach Sherrone Moore strives for perfection with contagious enthusiasm.

He says, “We want to get better every day and stay hungry. Don’t sit back and wait to see what goes on. Work your tail off. Be successful.”

We like his thoughts on bringing in the right people. We think about that advice to keep your circle tight and know who your enemies are. Everyone has their own traits that make them special, but Coach Moore wants to run with playmakers who want to win.

Coach wants to be with people who he trusts and respects. He wants to be with great people who are great mentors.
