B1G Football Media Days 2024-Day 1

Illinois Coach Bret Bielema

Bret Bielema, #fightingillini, “Perspective is everything! I can’t express how awesome it is to have this job!” Because of the Portal, coaches are recruiting and pursuing young men who want to be a part of something special.

I often wonder, for the students, what exactly makes a school special. Is it winning games, having a great coach, better academics, or more money?

What do you think? In today’s world of college football and the different views on expansion and the portal, these are the things I’d love to create conversation about. Your perspective is crucial in this unique time for the Big Ten Conference.! I can’t express how awesom

Rutgers Coach Greg Schiano

Rutgers Football coach Greg Schiano promised to prepare and develop his players to be ready for greatness. He wants to stay in the moment and chop the moment.

The ‘stay in the moment’ mindset is crucial for athletes’ mental health. It’s a perspective I strongly relate to. Tony Robbins encapsulates it perfectly, ‘Where focus goes, energy flows!’

Family. Trust. Chop. The past and the future are thieves. #FTC

Wisconsin Coach Luke Fickell

Wisconsin Badgers Luke Fickell talks about the ever-changing landscape of the Big Ten Conference.

As Wisconsin Football enters its second year under Coach Fickell, a lifelong Big Ten Conference enthusiast, the anticipation for the future is exciting. The prospect of creating new traditions and rivalries at the coast-to-coast B1G is a source of excitement for him and the program.

I love the thought of the new history, new traditions, new rivalries. Tradition vs Innovation.

Which team will become the biggest rival match-up against the Badgers?

Northwestern Coach David Braun

Coach David Braun, Head Coach of the Northwestern Football Wildcats, discusses opportunities to prioritize student-athletes through holistic support, academics, and staying true to Northwestern values.

#Character#Courage, and #Gratitude are three words he used to describe his players. Love this!

Purdue Coach Ryan Walters

Ryan Walters, Head Coach of Purdue Football, talks about everything new. 37 new players, new uniforms, new buildings, and new strengths.

He also discussed adversity and servant leadership. I took a lot from his message because most of us in leadership positions understand the importance of leading people. I always say you can manage data, but you have to lead people.

It seems to me that he understands the difference. It’s easier to lead with carrots than to beat with sticks.

#Coaches, what do you think? How do you keep your players’ hearts and motivate them to keep grinding?

Ohio State Coach Ryan Day

Coach Ryan Day of Ohio State Football admits this time of year is a funky time as the team leaves their families to head back to practice. Many parents can relate to this message as we are shopping for college and packing up our kids for dorms or scouring the ads for the best bargains on school supplies.

This summer has been a testament to the team’s dedication and purpose. Coach Day, in his speech, expressed his gratitude to his family and the team for their unwavering commitment to success in the football world, for giving up their summer “vacations” to pursue the love of football.

I think Coach proved his point when he mentioned that he and his three player representatives flew here this morning. I think Ohio State (off the cuff) to Lucas Oil Stadium is probably about a 2.5-hour ride. The fact that he chartered a plane to protect his team’s free time shows he’s putting his money where his mouth is.
